"Intro to COR Racing"
Last Saturday I spent the day with the bf and his friend The Photographer. We drove out east a ways, parked in a large field, and then stood in line to take a charter bus over to the stadium. Why would I do such a thing, you might ask. Well, because it was COR Racing day. It stands for Championship Off Road Racing. The bf is big into going out to the desert with quads and buggies and stuff, and LOVES this sort of thing. I'll admit, with all the drama of the past 2 weeks, I didn't want to go. I got sunburned and REALLY dirty (note: OFF ROAD means there is LOTS of dirt, everywhere, flying at you, getting into absolutely everything) But you know what? I'm glad I went, because it was fun! What got me there was that it was important to him, but I ended up having a great time, dirt sunburn and all. What is COR Racing you might wonder? Just look below.

Yes, those trucks got AIR coming off of some of those jumps. Yes, some people flipped over. Yes there was a fire. Yes, I absolutely forbid the bf to drive in these things EVER. (we compromised that he could own one, but someone else would have to drive it) Yes I turned and simply shook my head no at him during the 8 year old races and 12 year old races, where kids were driving crazy mini truck buggy things and running into each other and turning on their sides. He knows that no child of mine will ever be doing such a thing, I don't care how much he argues that "they're surrounded by metal". Yes he understood that it was non-negotiable.
But really? I loved it. It was a lot of fun, and I wouldn't be sad to go again sometime.
(also, I actually cropped and edited this photo! I rarely edit any of them...I'm working on that)
--------------------------------------------
Side note and entirely unrelated: I got Twitter. Mostly just so nobody else could have my username. I'm debating whether to take the plunge and use it or not. So far I just have the username. I'm slightly afraid that I'll be completely sucked in if I start.

Very cool. Now THAT is some serious air! A telephoto would've been fun for THAT!
Seriously! I think The Photographer might have been shooting with one of them. Of course I'm still using my little Canon PowerShot A510. I really want an SLR.
Hi Jaina,
I'm to old for this, it is waaaay over my head...There is no greenery or trees, that I could see. Where in the world were you, the moon;)))
Me again, On my second look I did see some green something or other...
Gramma Ann- Haha, the moon would have been cleaner! Out east in the desert at this quarry place. Yes, a working quarry. The people who own it have a track designed there for offroading. I bet they make quite a bit of money hosting these races.
Haha, yeah...those were tumbleweeds still attached I believe.
Wow! My hubby would LOVE to go to something like that! ANd I believe even I would enjoy it. ;-) But like you said, no child of MINE will ever do that! (Hubby is always going on about how our kids will be 4-wheeling and dirt bike riding etc...which is fine...but no crazy racing!!!)
Great shot of the truck getting air!!!
I think I would secretly enjoy it too...and be scared at the same time that Jon and Isaac (and Gracie for that matter) would get ideas.
As for Twitter...its fun! Just start following some people and see where it takes you...
April- Well, they have another race in September I believe it is. Yeah, the bf is trying to convince me that kids can be on quads and stuff. I know I'll have to give in to minor things, but seriously, none of the nonsense we saw out there. No way, I'd simply die.
Cecily- Thanks! I got shots as I could while protecting my camera from all the dirt. I'll have to see who all is on Twitter and maybe start following a few. I don't doubt I'd enjoy it, I just know that it might be the ONLY thing I do for a few months. Haha.
OK, so I'm old...what can I say...
But...
What is "TWITTER." I'm lost again;))
Gramma Ann- Don't worry, took me a while to figure it out too. Basically, it's like instant messaging, sorta. You can put in little blurbs about what you're thinking, seeing, saying, feeling. And it updates. And people can "follow" you, and get updates of your updates. Likewise, you can follow other people. And you can set it up so you can update from your phone with a text message. See why I'm hesitant to start? I mean yes, I got the account...but mostly just to have my username. I'm silly like that. Lots of people have a little sidebar on their blogs with their Twitter updates.
Well, I'm still lost;)) But thanks for the explanation.. Probably if I saw it in action I would understand it...Anyway, have a nice day and evening.
sounds like it was a lot of fun. I have never been to one but I have been to moto-cross and that is fun.
Ryanne- It was a lot of fun. I've never been to moto-cross, but I bet I'll be sometime soon, the bf loves that stuff. His favorite movie is SuperCross (great flick, btw) Thanks for stopping by, I hope to "see" you around soon.
Off road races are the best! we used to go when we lived in Vegas. Once when my son was 3, he went racing-- yes, my husband strapped our 3 yr old into a baja bug and he raced down the desert track. It would be one thing if the driver was someone we knew and not just met in the pits! He was hooked up to the mic and all that could be heard was a resounding, "WooHoo"! He was in heaven! where was I, waiting patiently for them to come back from their little walk. I was very pregnant with our 3rd. All was well and happy!
Carrie and Troy- I sure had a lot of fun. That sounds scary though! You must be way stronger than me. I don't think I could do it. I'm looking forward to the next time we go to watch the races.
Fair warning. You'll be sucked in. I did the exact same thing...because of the user name. Now, it's like crack.
Momo- Thanks for the warning, that's what I've been afraid of. I'm certain I'll love it...but I haven't done it because I don't want to get addicted to it. Thus far I have NOT logged in yet, haven't even started following anyone. I figure I'll be safe until I get bored one day. Then I'm toast. But luckily boredom doesn't look to be anywhere in my near future. More of, I'll be WISHING for boredom. Haha.
Wild! I'm with you - no child of mine will be doing that! (I hope.) fun outing with the bf!
SuperCool Mom- Haha, seriously. I mean I'm sure the kids have a blast and all, but I just can't understand that people allow EIGHT YEAR OLDS to do that! It scares me, honestly.
