I should have listened to my mother...

My mother always told me, "careful, don't hold that by the lid, you'll spill it." My grandmother always told me, "be careful with that drink, hold it by the sides so you don't spill it." If only they'd been with me this morning as I maneuvered two large, dutch apple chais into the drink holders of my car. The first one went off without a hitch. Somewhere between that and getting the second one in, disaster struck, and all those words came back to laugh in my face. Somehow, the lid (you know, the one that I had been warned countless times NOT to hold) that lid, came up off the cup, and in the process I dropped the cup. The cup with 20oz of hot, dutch apple chai. All over my passenger seat. Luckily, my sweatshirt was laying on the seat and took a lot of it. But there was still PLENTY of the steaming hot liquid to soak my car. Luckily it was made with soy and not regular milk. I'm still a little worried about it, but the bf said he has an upholstery cleaner that we can use on it after work. I can only imagine the reaction my mother is going to have when I tell her how right she was. At least I'm laughing about it, right? I feel like a complete idiot, but it's funny, in a way. Especially if we get it all cleaned up and not smelling weird other than dutch apple chai...which is a pleasant scent actually. Bonus: I went back into the shop after I mopped it up with napkins, and told them I needed to get another one because I dumped one all over the car, and they made me one for free, it was super sweet of them. I love my neighborhood coffee shops.

At least I know I'll never hold a cup by the lid or near the lid ever ever again.

Jaina,

Don't be to hard on yourself, we have all been there and done something similar to that.

When two of my little darlin's were teen-ager, they were send to get a gallon of milk, you guessed it, on the way home they spilled the gallon of milk on the carpet in the front of the car. We had to rip the carpet out of that car. The sour milk smell is not so sweet. I guess we can be glad it wasn't on the seat, or we would have had no place to set;)) OH! The sweet memories;))

Between you and me, the more I learn, the more I learn my Mother was always right. :)

Thank Gramma Ann, I'm mostly just completely annoyed that I did it...but I'm laughing about it. Especially because I think the soy saved me...my car was SUPER hot yesterday afternoon...and it only smelled like dutch apple chai, and not much at that. Still going to use the upholstery cleaner though...I windexed it this morning (seriously, worked well)

Mamageek, while I didn't question my mother nearly as much as I hear you're suppose to as a teenager...you are COMPLETELY right. Seriously. Too bad I wasn't heeding her advice yesterday morning!

This is one of the accidents I hate the most - such a mess and it never feels like you get it completely clean again. I hope you do! Take care and have a good weekend - Kellan

I have done that too, only with coffee. I hate when that happens, not the best way to start the day. I hope you can get it cleaned up. The smell of spoiled milk or I guess soy too, can be pretty yucky!!
How nice they made you one for free. That is a good feeling.

Always listen to your mother or in the end it will come back to haunt you, lol.

I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the photos on the Flickr account. I had to look at all of them, once I got started. Very amazing, you have a lot of talent. Thanks for sharing them. If I were you, I'd have them framed and hanging all over. They are really beautiful.

Thanks Kellan. The upholstery is still a bit stiff as I haven't had time to pay much attention to it, but the soy seems to have saved me from the smell of rotten milk. Thank goodness!

Eileen, thank you SO much. Your comment about my photos on Flickr totally made my day, I'm glad you liked them :) Honestly, if you want any printed, let me know and I can email you the file or something. I'm working on selecting some to print myself, I just need a few more hours in the day...
